Hello everybody,
Today I was inspired to help. Inspired by a tweet I saw by Paul & Storm about how Weird Al Yankovic should be the entertainment at the halftime show of the next SuperBowl, Super Bowl XLVII. I immediately agreed. It would be amazing to have him perform and it totally makes sense too. He is an amazing showman, a music legend, an American icon, and he’s NOT the Black Eyed Peas. It’s perfect. This year was Madonna and to be honest, she sucked. She is a classic example of artists who were amazing at first and suck now, but don’t know they should quit already. *Cough Metallica, U2 Cough* In the 80′s when she first came out she was amazing and groundbreaking, an instant star. In the 90′s she pushed boundaries and made people question ideas about sexuality. In the 2000′s or aughts as I have heard them stupidly referred to she has been terrible and continues to be so today. Her performance was boring. She opened with Vogue, a twenty year or more old song that everyone loves and she knows we want to hear. Then came another “song” that I can only assume is on her coming album which this performance is obviously a PR stunt for. And then she closed with Like a Prayer, another classic that we as a people like. It was obvious pandering and lame.
Weird Al as a performer would be great at the Super Bowl. His shows involve costume changes, light effects, all kinds of musical styles to appeal to everyone. Also, as an artist he has only gotten better. His records sell more and more in the last few years. His last album debuted in the Billboard top ten. How many artists can say that in the latter parts of their career they are still consistently selling more records than they did before with each release? His appeal is widespread, the whole world loves him.
Sit back and imagine what Weird Al could do with a Super Bowl halftime show budget for a concert. The awesomeness almost explodes my brain. This needs to happen.
So, to help, and I know you want to there are two things you can do. First, go to the Facebook page here and “like” the idea of him playing next year. Then go here and add your name to the list of people who think Weird Al should do the halftime show at the next Super Bowl.
After you’ve done those things start to think of anything else you can to spread the word. Post links on Twitter, Tumblr, and any other social networking or online tool you can think of. Tell your friends, co-workers, and family members. Tell them over and over again until they are telling everyone they know just to get you to shut up about it. We can do this. Together we can make this happen. The Internet has changed the world before and it can easily do this. We just have to work together.
